And after a very full day J decided that it was time to spin honey tonight!

We put on our bee suits and he collected the super and brushed off stray bees. Then we took off the suits

Then he uncapped the frames

And placed four frames at a time in the honey spinner and we took goes at turning the handle

Once the frames were empty we placed the triple sieve below the spinner and opened the tap

When it has all gone through the sieve and bits of wax and impurities have been removed we will fill the honey jars

And now it’s time for a cuppa and a few minutes rest.

This morning, before they all arrived, I picked lots of blackcurrants and made jam. It’s a brilliant jam to make, is sets so easily and quickly.

Don’t try this around here

As we work in the garden we often here snippets of conversation as bike riders cycle past The Gables, taking advantage of the mostly flat Bedfordshire byways. Yesterday evening son told me of a different bike ride that cycled past him and his companion in the centre of London, The Naked Bike ride, organised to curb car use and celebrate body freedom. From the photos he sent me the vast majority of these exposed torsos belonged to men and not very pretty ones st that!

This is one photo out of a selection he sent me that I can post!

Apparently two old boys at the back of the peleton fell off and onlookers quickly tried to fix their bikes and get them moving again. Mad dogs and Englishmen. On the other hand gezunterheyt. But don’t try it down my lane thank you very much. Nigel and Mabel would not be impressed.
