At mum’s flat we had coffee with one of my favourite “aunties”……one of mums friends who did not insist that my brother or I called her Aunty when we were nippers. Most of their other friends were called Aunty “this” or Uncle “that” even though they were not blood relations of ours! Then mum and I had lunch together, sorted out some paperwork and then it was back into the car and a drive to Argos in St Neots where automation has nearly eliminated the need for humans.

I just about managed to drive through the gate at The Gables, where umpteen grow bags had just been offloaded from a lorry on a sturdy wooden pallet.

It was into the house, off with the glad rags and back into works clothes and wellies so that I could help Jeremy load the bags onto the trailer and take them down to the new polytunnel.

Where we then hauled the grow bags from trailer to ground and then put them onto shelves.

Think of all the strawberry plants that we hope to grow in the bags…..and all the strawberry jam!
