My former work colleague and friend, Carol, lives right next door to the towering inferno in West London. All the surrounding buildings were evacuated on the night (early hours of the morning) of the fire and she was only able to return to her home yesterday evening. Many people are too scared to go home as there is debris and ash hanging from and falling from the building. This is the view from Carol’s window where she says there is a large piece of metal swinging around in the breeze. So tragic and terrifying. Good luck to all in the area and may there never be another such disaster, anywhere in the world,

This is just so dreadful, so nice to hear that there is a real community spirit, pulling together to help those in distress. Our village school has organised a clothing, shoe etc. collection and one of the dad’s is taking the donations to London today. I can’t imagine what it must be like to lose my home and possessions in an instant, thanking my lucky stars right now.
Gill, Thank you for posting this. I have been very concerned that the Grenfell Tower residents complaints were ignored but also repeated references to residents’ ‘deprivation’. This is a tragedy, no matter the social class of the victims. It may yet prove that those who ignored the instruction to ‘Stay Put’ survived while others perished.
