RIP Lexy

Animals have a habit of confounding you.  A lifeless lamb (Tiny Tim and, last year, Wiggle) can revive and soon be skipping and gambolling around the field.  A healthy looking calf can suddenly keel over, begin to fit and die before the vet arrived.  That is what happened to Lexy on Tuesday who, in spite of excellent care from friends and neighbours and farmer Rob, left us very swiftly.  The vet carried out a post-mortem and discovered that her intestines had haemorrhaged and that she probably had been infected by chlostridium disease.  Chlostridium, like tetanus, is present in most soil.  No one knows why it strikes some animals and not others but, as a precaution, we will get all the sheep and cows vaccinated.  Lucy is eating well today and has her soulmate Beattie to keep her company.

Bella is wondering where her half sister has gone.
