Podding, drying and storing field beans

This year Jeremy grew five rows of “field beans” which look very similar to broad beans but are harvested to dry and are not eaten fresh.  The harvested pods have sat in the field shelter until the pods have turned black and, this afternoon, we sat and podded them and placed the beans on trays to dry in the airing cupboard.  When fully dry we will transfer them to jars and store them for use in winter soups and stews.
