Armfuls of asparagus and lots of leeks

Over two years ago, when we planted the asparagus in deeply dug rows lined with manure carted over from Kate’s farm, I hoped that our “hard” labour would one day be rewarded.  In the first year and last year Jeremy restricted us to just a few shoots, telling me that the plants needed to establish their root networks and grow strong.  How right he was.  This year we are reaping the rewards and are eating asparagus nearly every day.

The winter bed of leeks is still going strong and getting fatter whilst, inside the polytunnel, the baby leeks are growing and will be planted out in June.

  1. I always love the vegetables and salads that you show us, we are just about to start a new mini allotment and we hope to be rewarded with some home grown delights before too long 🙂
