I have so much to learn ……how to distinguish crows from ravens and jackdaws……how to tell which bird cry or song belongs to which bird and all their names……how to recognize the flora and fauna in our garden and beyond and also the names of the many, beautiful butterflies that play around the pergola flowers and the lavender on a sunny day. So if anyone can name these two I would be grateful. It’s a small piece of a much larger picture and I can only hope to learn some of the names as I have started so late in life. Have a lovely Bank Holiday Easter and Passover and any other festival Monday.

Good morning Gillian, what beautiful pictures of the two butterflies, my thoughts are that the top one is a Peacock and the bottom one, i may be incorrect here, looks like a Tortoiseshell, there large and small Tortoiseshells. What a glorious day it is, have a very happy Easter Monday. Oh, by the way, it’s never too late to learn, I still am and I am 65.
Peacock left small tortoise shell right
Jackaws shiny head
Carrion crows larger and uniform black
Ravens heavy head large bill
Magpies black and white!
All in the crow family but different species I think
Hope all is well
Tim
Frank says top one peacock and other one small tortoiseshell butterfly
Good exercise I am sure for the brain to learn new names. Though does get harder to remember stuff, as I know from trying endlessly to learn Italian
Hag sameach! Bxx
