On our Wednesday footpath walk some keen eyed ramblers spotted tiny violets nestling in the grass and we stopped to admire and photograph them.
When I returned home the broody Silkie was still sitting on her clutch ( day three we think) but there was a problem with the large nest box affixed to the gable end of the low barn wall. The gable needed to come down and be rebuilt but we had seen stock doves entering and leaving the box and, on looking, two eggs were inside. So the carpenters fixed the nesting box to the nearest large tree and we have to hope and pray that the birds find it and return to care for their eggs.
