The BBC forecast for Colmworth is almost hour perfect.  The weather was predicted to be mild but cloudy for most of the day and then, at 4pm the outlook was bright sunshine until 6 o’clock.  And guess what, as I finished the spring cleaning of the house ( that began at 6.30 this morning) the sun came out, the resident hawk began to hover over the field looking for supper and I opened up the shed to grab a hoe and continue the “war against the thistles”.

Tufts of grass and dark green thistles spring up overnight between the rows of broad beans and onions and our most effective weapon is a good old fashioned hoe that Joy bought us at the beginning of our adventure…..for £2.50 from Tesco!    Tomorrow I hope to get to grips with my new toy, the petrol lawn mower but for now it’s weeding and watching hawks in the late afternoon sunshine.
