Hoe, hoe, hoe…….and maybe wild ducks can read!

What a scorcher.  A day for washing sheets and towels and drying on the outdoor washing line.  A morning spent hoeing between rows of broad beans, strawberries, onions and garlics – decimating thistles and stray tufts of grass.  My sort of gardening, more like tidying the house even though it will need tidying again soon.

Then something quite amazing happened, a drake flew into the air as Jeremy walked around the pond and out of the duck house came the duck….they had discovered the floating duck house and maybe, just maybe they will colonize the house and nest there. It could happen and wouldn’t it be the best if it did?

After a pot of tea and a snack it was back to work, with me weeding the patio at the rear of the house using two old chisels to scrape weeds from the pathways.

And Jeremy trimming the laurel hedge which had grown shaggy and unkempt.

Drinks on the terrace later – all welcome.

  1. I’ve been hoeing too today, very satisfying! Frank’s been stacking the cut wood from our hedge for the wood burner. One fine day we would love to join you. What’s your nearest station? We can get the train and cycle over. Love Bxx
