Nearly talking

On Friday morning Nigel followed me out to the goat barn. He hoped to get some milk. As I emerged with the pail Nigel practically talked to me click below

Both cats then hung around outside the kitchen door. I couldn’t resist them

My family doesn’t have a great deal of “Yichus” (dr Google will help you with some of the Yiddish words I’m using today)

but mum always said that we were related to the entertainer Lionel Blair who has died aged 92

When my brother saw mum today he asked her how we are related but mum just kept asking him how he had met “the Blairs”.

I don’t think we’ll get any answers now! My brother, the Fabulous MickyC continues to entertain the punters at his various gigs across London in what is, apparently, the family tradition.

Maybe my bruvva will one day be as famous as the late Lionel Blair. He’s a late starter but he’s good!

There’s been a “broiges” in the paddock chicken run

Mother hen and her chicks have been kicked out of the hen house.

Luckily Phil and I moved the small house into the paddock run on Monday and Mother and chicks are in their own accommodation tonight

Night, night

My friend across the road let me know that our mutual MP voted against his party in the motion in the Commons last night. Well done Richard Fuller MP. A man of principle.

In between cooking the beans and tromboncinos and making cheese over in the barn kitchen

Bean casserole and roast tromboncino

I spoke with my brother about the debacle in The Commons yesterday when the government tried to protect their corrupt MP Owen Paterson from suspension by introducing a motion to overhaul the standards system. Incensed, I wrote to my MP Richard Fuller asking which way he had voted last night but, more importantly, asking why MPs who are supposedly employed full time to represent their constituents also take other paid positions

If this salary is insufficient for the aspirations of our MPs then let them

Seek employment elsewhere and leave their seats to those who will work full time for the interests of the voters. No wonder there is apathy amongst the electorate.

Mother hen seems to be the dominant bird in the paddock run

Her chicks stay close to her and the other birds approach at their peril

The older birds are eating “chick crumbs” whilst mother and chicks . Click below eat the corn that I scattered earlier. When I tried to pick up one of the chicks Mother Hen literally flew at me. I won’t try that again

In the barn kitchen I’ve started a new batch of halloumi. First stage milk your goat then next stage gently heat the milk to 180 degrees then add half a cup of apple cider vinegar and wait at least half an hour. I’ll go back to the curdled milk later for the next stages.

Tufty and son are getting to know the three ewes

Here at home the geese are noisy and hungry
They don’t realise that attacking me is not the best way to get fed!
In the garden we picked the last of the borlotti beans and some french beans that have purple beans inside their pods. I will be making a bean casserole tomorrow
The barn birds got a treat of cut up apples and greens. Perhaps they would lay me some eggs. I only got one today but that beats yesterday!
