An inspiration

The synagogue in Lviv where the Rebbetzin and her family made Passover for the community this week

For those of you who have read “Jews Milk Goats” you will have seen the chapter entitled from London to Lviv. My friendship and connection with the Rabbi and Rebbetzin Sara began 30 years ago. Whilst I have moved on to The Gables and enjoy a more peaceful lifestyle, the Rabbi and Sara continue to care for an impoverished community in a country that has been at war for over 2 years. In spite of the dangers and difficulties they ensure that no one goes hungry, that no one is lonely and that the festivals can be celebrated in the beautiful synagogue which was restored and rededicated in 2007. I was fortunate to take a plane full of people to Lviv on that remarkable day which was the most memorable and humbling and inspiring day of my life.

May the Rabbi and Sara and their family continue to have the strength and courage to care for the Lviv community and may they be able, one day, to visit The Gables where we can sit and reminisce and enjoy nature together. May that day come soon.

Two more ewes needed to have their hooves trimmed

Surprise and her lamb spent the night together in the barn

I held the upturned ewe between my legs and Jeremy trimmed her hooves. She behaved very well unlike Domino who managed to land a couple of kicks!

We had put Suprise’s lamb outside whilst the trim took place and when we let Surprise out of the barn there was a noisy reunion. Click below

What a fabulous walk

We started in rain and ended in sunshine

We stopped to admire Bassmead Manor which is a farm and a wedding venue
Then it was on along footpaths and past fields of solar panels
Under and around which ewes and lambs were grazing
And everywhere we saw and heard skylarks. Wonderful
