Up with the dawn chorus at 4 am

Wisp started her labour last night

At midnight we took a bale of straw out to the goat shed and strewed it over the floor to provide clean, fresh bedding for any new arrival. At 4 am I was awoken by the dawn chorus, pulled on my wellies and coat over my PJ’s and set out across the paddock. Wisp was in the midst of pushing and the kid was partially visible. By the time I had called Jeremy from his slumbers the kid was born and mother was licking him clean

We will bottle feed the billy kid because Wisp had an abscess on her udder a few years ago and can’t produce milk.

Here we go again weighing milk powder, washing and sterilising bottles and staying up late for the last feed.
