An emotional day with a glimmer of hope

How privileged I feel to have watched the transition of power from one prime minister to his successor. In a country which chooses its rulers and representatives by the ballot box and not by bullets. Where, unlike in the USA, campaigns do not cost billions of dollars. Where a man from a working class background married to the daughter of a Jewish Polish immigrant can rise to the highest government position and stand outside 10 Downing Street promising to do his utmost to heal the rifts and divisions in our country and, above all, to serve the people of this country. How fortunate are we? I truly believe that Keir Starmer will work hard to accomplish his goals for our country. Good luck – we must have hope.

  1. Congratulations to the people of the UK . Hopefully , and I fervently believe it to be true, you have elected a government dedicated to the well being of the vast swath of citizens, not just the privileged few. We in the US are on the precipice of electing a dictator, aided by a bought and paid for Supreme Court and a sycophantic legislature, unless something changes dramatically I the very near future. Our elections are increasingly decided by mega donors. The outlook is very grim.
