Anniversaries and birthdays and some jolly good bread

Ten years ago I started writing a blog

The date was always going to be memorable as 13th November was dad’s birthday. He died aged 86 and would have been 96 today.

The only child of parents Kate and Sam – his childhood was spent in the East End

Poor in material wealth but full of friendships, many of which lasted all his life.

Married at 21 to the love of his life with whom he celebrated 65 glorious years

They made the most of every single day of their lives

Not the mafia- just a night out at a Mayfair hotel – possibly for boxing (I can’t remember and can’t ask now) dad on the right smoking a Havana cigar
Generous to a fault he took my family to Disney Florida during a February half term holiday over 30 years ago.

Growing up in poverty, visiting the bath house once a week, with parents who never had a spare penny and needed his contributions when he began work aged 14, this was a dream for him and mum and we appreciated his love and generosity

Always at my brother’s football matches, later at his grandson’s games – we had a visit yesterday from a friend of my nephew. He said that dad was his surrogate grandpa driving him and my nephew all over London to play football and watching snd encouraging them from the sidelines. He was always there for his family and even his great grandson who remembers him with love and affection. May his memory be for a blessing💕

Never a cook, dad would have been surprised by Jeremy’s baking. Two almost perfect sour dough loaves this morning

    Congratulations Jeremy.
Walked 8km yesterday afternoon. Everybody was happy to be THERE. Never lost hope!!!

  2. I didn’t realise your Dad and Jennifer share a birthday (or I’ve forgotten).
Such a lovely man and such wonderful memories!
    Lots of love
