Born September 29th 1927

She left us on February 21st 2022

Sybil – only child of Anne and Charles

Mother to my brother and me, grandmother to four grandchildren and great grandmother to three great grandchildren. All of us adored her until the day she passed away.

Mum was an all round lovely person who made friends wherever she went – school, youth club, work, golf and bridge clubs, the centres where she volunteered. These friends were attracted to her, valued her company and remained connected to her for the rest of her life. She was a fabulous wife, daughter and daughter in law and she became a marvellous mother in law. We were all proud of her and she taught us so much about how to live a good and full life without ever telling us what to do.

Mum and dad at the front of this “cool” table of friends in the 1960’s
Always stylish and fashionable
Mum and dad knew how to enjoy life to the full whilst also caring for their parents, their children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren
Mum aged 80 with a first cousin and the daughter of another first cousin and me
Mum watching a grandson playing in a football final. She was already 90
Mum reading to two great grandchildren in her flat a year before she decided that she wanted to go into residential care
Mum petting a newborn gosling on one of her many visits to The Gables. Our local friends became mum’s friends and sent her birthday and Christmas cards
At the residential home mum, aged 92, made new close friends
The cruelty of covid meant that for a year we could only talk and visit mum through a window. She never, ever complained.
She made the most of these visits and helped us to cope with a bizarre situation

Every day I want to pick up the phone and tell mum some family news. I want to ask her advice. I want to gossip with her. I want to laugh with her. I want to mock our politicians with her (she did the best Theresa May impersonation that had me and her carer in stitches). She definitely knew how much we all loved her and we were all privileged to spend time with her in her last few days. May her memory be for a blessing.
