The rain falls and I cry too – but not for my wonderful mother

But for all those people I know and cherish in Ukraine. For their beautiful cities, their synagogues and churches, their schools and their businesses, their hopes dashed and their men and women who will die (and have already died) trying to remain an independent nation. So much to say but in short none of us will lift a hand. We did not do so in Syria or in Belarus or in conflicts past and present. I spoke with the rebbetzin in Lviv this morning. She had not left her community although she could have returned to America weeks ago. As she spoke to me she was speaking ukrainian to her staff giving directions probably to prepare food and shelter for those from the east who are calling her. I am in mourning ………

  1. What a great tragedy this is and why is it so difficult to live in peace with each other. We must prioritise what really matters in our world and not just money and power. I imagine WJR will have an appeal but please let us know if we can do anything else. Love to you and the family xx

  2. Lviv will always be imprinted on my heart, remembering all the hours we worked together to help those good people. Without that l might never have met you Gill. I pray they will be safe.

  3. Dear Gillian I just saw your recent posts and firstly would like to offer my condolences for the loss of your wonderful Mother O”H. May you be comforted amongst the mourners of Zion. May the wonderful memories you lived, created and shared together be an everlasting comfort and strength to you and your family.

Yes we share your horror and fright at the events now transpiring in the Ukraine, affecting all those wonderful people who have heroically rebuilt. But once again “the world stands still doesn’t make a sound!

We pray, please Hashem bring an end to the suffering and misfortune in this beautiful world and may the redemption come fast in our days. Thinking of you at this time, also on behalf of my husband. Zvi & Lea Feldman

  4. We never learn the lessons of history. Appeasement of a dictator bent on world domination does not work. We now have armed conflict in Europe for the second time during my life.

  5. Me too! Such a very sad situation בתאריך יום ה׳, 24 בפבר׳ 2022, 10:57 AM, מאת gfreedmanblog ‏:
