Grateful for the loud dawn chorus

That woke me out of a tangled dream to which I had no wish to return. As a result I was out with the animals on a perfect June morning – before 6 am. And as a result of the early start I saw, in the paddock, my first ever pair of bull finches. Such a surprise and such a treat.

One on the woodpile and one on the fence
They are an amber status bird in UK and their numbers have declined 36% since 1967
This “spot” has set me up for the day.

  1. They are such spectacular birds. I always spotted a couple for the big garden birdwatch but then I had a large cherry tree outside the kitchen window. Now it is gone I shall have to rely on binoculars!
