Grantchester…..Rupert Brooke

The Old Vicarage, Grantchester – a nostalgic poem written by a homesick Rupert Brooke whilst in Berlin in 1912.

Brooke, said to be the handsomest man in England by many who knew him, died of Sepsis in 1915 whilst serving in the army. His poems and his photograph are worth a look. Today the U3A group is walking a circuit around Grantchester. There is a fine Jacob ram in a field just past the vicarage

  1. Pardon my ignorance but I thought Grantchester was a fictional town. I love the tv show, although I miss James Norton. Al Weaver and Robson Green are terrific, too.
