I came back from St Neots just after 3 pm. No sign of labour and then…….Bella was on her feet, the sac had burst and a hoof was protruding from her rear.

I watched for a while as she began to push but nothing much was happening so I put out a call to Phil. Luckily he was two minutes away and came straight over. We managed to get Lucy into the barn and out of Bella’s way. Lucy bellowed but couldn’t interfere. Then it was stop/start pushing. Phil asked for some rubber gloves. I keep a box in the kitchen and ran to get them. He put them on and began to feel for the calf’s nose and to see if the calf would get through the first time mum’s narrow passageway. Phil was optimistic and kept Bella and me calm. Then Bella sat down and Phil got behind her again and grabbed the front legs of the calf. Click below
Well done Bella and well done Phil. A beautiful boy.

We let Lucy out to inspect her new relative and Lily had a look too.

Glad all ended well. Congrats!
