Another reminder of the kindness of strangers on this poignant weekend

Nigel’s new friend is an 11 year old girl whose grandfather came to England on the Kindertransport (the children’s train) from Hamburg when he was just 8 years old. He never saw his parents again and they perished in The Camps. He was educated in England, married here, was the father of four children and the grandfather to many grandchildren. An educated, successful man who waved goodbye to his parents from the window of the train that brought him to these shores and into the arms of strangers.

We remember the opportunity that this country gave 10000 jewish children before the gates of Europe were shut and escape was no longer possible. This weekend we remember the past and also think of the unaccompanied children waiting on the shores of Europe today and maybe we can offer to open our arms and give them hope and safe haven.

Below is another special photograph sent to me this morning by friends who live in Miami.

BTW we had a happy HIP HOP brunch with our young friends and their children and the sun shone too!
