Anno domini

Drove into London this morning in a blizzard of sleet and back again in sunshine. In between did a Tesco run in Borehamwood, stopped in The Suburb, parked at Highgate Hospital, met one of my Weekend guests (by chance)in the waiting room (will see him again later!), met a delightful young professor who confirmed that I am in dire need of a hip replacement (bone rubbing on bone) and PG will be done in February. Then I saw my lovely Mum and we laughed about our ailing bodies and remembered her wonderful Mum, my grandma Anne, who lived with chronic arthritis for over thirty years until her hip joints were replaced and she was finally pain free. Dad had one hip replaced as well and was able to play all his sports afterwards. Here’s hoping.

Grandma Anne and Sybil her daughter, my Mum.

Grandma Anne and Grandpa Charles

My grandparents took my brother and myself out often at the weekends but Grandpa always had to find grandma a deckchair on the beach or in the Rose gardens in Regents Park. He would walk and run with my brother and with me whilst Grandma Anne sat unable to walk with us. She never ever complained and I loved and adored her.

  1. I have a bi-lateral hip replacement (occasionally when I tell people, they will respond ‘I’ve had two!’. Unless you have suffered the pain of arthritis, you cannot know how debilitating it is. Go for it Gill.

  2. Oh dear GILLIAN

Oh well so it’s stocking up the freezer with all your lovely home grown food for a while ( can’t see jeremy in the kitchen)
Please do yourself a favour and don’t have it done there at Highgate the rooms are so not geared up for sick people . It’s a great hotel with nurses .
    Enjoy your guests this weekend
    Love to all

  3. And I wish you well too, Gill. I hope the op is soon and removes the pain. What lovely photos of your mum and grandparents. X

  4. Sorry you are obviously in pain with your hip. Once you have the opp I’m sure you’ll feel so much better and will be skipping around again! Let me know when you have a date! Shavua Tov xx
