The new chicks are now fully grown and have t be integrated with the flock. The pretty Maran Bantam (my favourite of all the new chicks) has been put in the run with the new Bantam cockerel and two established birds. Sadly she keeps escaping under the gate and trying to return to her old run. This morning she was perched in th hen house out of reach of the others.

When I bent down to hand feed her some corn I saw that she had a “bloody nose” and I think the sandy coloured hen has been attacking her.

She will have to learn to stand her ground and find her place in the “pecking order”. But as I left the run she jumped up and sat on the gate trying to go with me.😥

I do not recognise this woman who could hard-heartedly turn her back on a chick with a bloody nose!
