Poor old Mack – gone but not forgotten

On a beautiful, peaceful summer’s afternoon Mack was out on the prowl and sadly he was hit be a car on the Wilden Road just near the back gate.  The driver and a witness stopped to tell us about the accident and it was unavoidable, Mack was in the road and the car couldn’t miss him.  Mack crawled in through the hedge and Jeremy and I carried him on a makeshift stretcher to the shade by the house and covered him with a blanket.  He was crying intermittently and Mabel and Josie were clustered around him not knowing what was happening or why their pal was yowling.  An “animal ambulance” came to take him to the 24 hour emergency vets in Huntingdon where it was decided that his injuries were too severe for him to be saved.  So Mack has gone to to the great Cat Sanctuary in the sky on the night of a full moon.  Mack brought us great happiness and he was beloved by our grandchildren and the very many children who have visited The Gables since he arrived here with Mabel nearly three years ago.  They were rescue cats and I like to think that their lives here were as joyful for them as they were for us.  Rest in Peace – we will miss you very much old fella.

  2. Oh Gill, what very sad news. I send condolences to you all. What a sad year for losing beloved members of the family- both human and animal..

  3. Poor Mack. How sad. At least the driver came and told you what had happened, so many would have just driven off. How will Mable deal with loosing her pal? At least he had a happy life with you!
