Bedfordshire used to be a place where large quantities of onions were grown.  They certainly grow well in our garden and reputedly did well around the village of Colmworth.  Now the fields are sown with barley and wheat and field beans and kale and the old onion barn, where many onions were stored, has almost fallen down.
