One family, worlds apart

I set off from The Gables at 5.00 am leaving Jeremy to bottle feed Sweetie Pie and Poppet.  Sweetie is a ravenous guzzler whilst Poppet is still learning to suck. I hit Tesco at 6.00 where I was surprised to find a photograph of the very zebra crossing on Abbey Road about which I had blogged yesterday.

Now I am looking after a poorly grandson ( the big one not the new baby) who is well enough to be watching his fathers iPad and eating jelly beans!  As I drink my coffee I am looking at a bunch of photographs sent by email to the family from our family Professor Rosa who is in Haiti, where she is working with cholera victim groups trying to ensure that any compensation and remedies are what the victims want and need.  In a nutshell there was a terrible earthquake in Haiti in 2008 and UN peacekeepers  were sent to the country to help with the aftermath.  Sadly some of the Nepalese peacekeepers were carriers of cholera. The cholera got into the water supply and many, many people died and were infected with a disease which is deadly in a poor country.  The work to compensate the victims and their families and to clear up the cholera is only now going ahead and Rosa is in Haiti with colleagues to find out how best to carry this through.
