I was on the waiting list for the U3A cinema club and received a call yesterday to say that a ticket had been returned for the afternoon performance at St Neots Cineworld today. I arrived in good time and with my membership card in my wallet (last time I got a reprimand for forgetting this vital piece of ID!). I sat next to a lovely, elderly lady of French and Armenian descent who had spent many years in Scotland and the last 20 years in Eaton Socon. Now a widow, she says that the U3A has given her a lifeline with so many classes and meetings and friendly folk to ease the loss of her husband. I felt quite comfortable sitting beside her weeping into my tissues as I wallowed in the wonderful performance of Casey Affleck and the affecting storyline of the magnificent “Manchester by the Sea”. See it if you wish but don’t forget a handkerchief or two.

At home little Pickle is as pretty as a toy lamb and almost as cuddly.
