The passing of a very special man

On Monday afternoon Jeremy’s loved and respected father passed away at home in his 96th year.  He was holding his wife’s hand, surrounded by children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.  His was truly a full and fulfilled life.  A doctor by profession he was the first in his family to attend University.  An old fashioned family GP who visited his patients at home whenever they needed him and at whatever time of day or night.  As well as treating their ailments he listened to their problems and understood that each individual wanted to be heard and respected as well as given pills and medicine.  In spite of a busy professional life he found time for communal work and he was a chairman of the North London Hospice and had the privilege of accompanying the Queen and introducing her to patients and staff when it was formally opened.  Jeremy’s father was modest and wore his great scholarship lightly;  He taught himself to read and speak over 10 languages, he was a lover of opera and the arts and he always had books and music by his side.  His friends, his patients, his colleagues and his large family respected and loved him and he and his wife were devoted to each other.  We are sad to lose him, we feel incomplete without him but we are so grateful to have had him with us and guiding us for so many years.
