At last the cape gooseberries (which are not gooseberries at all but members of the physalis family) are beginning to ripen.

We plant these around the edge of a raised bed and in the centre are the earlier fruiting tomatillos (also member of the nightshade family) with which I make a hot salsa dip. Just recently I discovered that Nightshade family plants may be exacerbating my arthritis and so I stopped eating tomatoes and will have to look at the delicious cape gooseberries and offer them to guests instead of popping them into my mouth. Boo hoo!
Yes I heard before that tomatoes can exacerbate arthritis. However mine isn’t going to improve so I just carry on eating them.
