Killing on The Suburb

26 hours in London gave us the opportunity to see granddaughter, to hand over a box of fruit and vegetables to son and spend a day catching up with friends. When the heat of the day was cooling we took a walk around Lyttleton playing fields.  Amongst the row of magnificent weeping willows there stood a tree suffering from ash dieback.  A sorry sight.  As we continued around the field we spotted a pigeon struggling under a killer sparrowhawk.  As we approached the scene the hawk flew into an adjacent tree and we moved a bit further and the killer returned to sit on its prey and to pluck at the struggling pigeon with its vicious beak.  We watched with fascination as the sparrowhawk overcame the larger bird and then we continued with our pleasant afternoon stroll.
