You may remember that as the lambs arrived I made a decision to ring them so that their tails would, eventually, drop off and their behinds would not become caked in excrement and liable to fly strike. It was a subject that caused some contention here but after dagging last years lambs (i.e. cutting away the hardened material from around their tails and bottoms and legs) it was agreed that we would order the implement and rings for the task. The same rings can be used for castration but we did not want to do that so decided to let “boys be boys”. We got quite good at putting the rings on the tails and none of the lambs even seemed to mind as it just took a few seconds. And now, one by one and at variable times, the tails are dropping off leaving the lambs with very neat behinds. And yesterday morning Wiggle’s tail came off…….and he looks prettier than ever.
