Lost and………..

Jeremy greeted me, early this morning, by saying that the “tiny lamb” was gone probably taken by a fox or a badger. He had searched the field and then, together, we walked around the perimeter of the field in the set aside section between the fence and the neighbouring copse and hedges. No sign of blood,or bones or wool. There are holes in the copse that might be rabbit warrens or badger sets but there were no entrails at any of these sites. Poor little lamb who had survived several days in spite of being so tiny.

We carried on with some garden tasks including making the garden lamb proof,so that Iggle and Piggle can play outside. The. Jeremy went to tighten the gates.  The mechanism that shuts the gates needs adjusting every couple of months.  As he tightened the one nearest Little Miss Pretty, the mother of the lost Tiny Lamb, he heard a pathetic bleating.  It was coming from underneath the hay feeder and the Tiny Lamb had managed to get itself trapped there….got under but couldn’t get out.  It’s a heavy piece of equipment to lift but we both lifted together and the Tiny lamb crawled out, bleated once or twice and ran to its mother to feed.  Hooray.

  1. It brings tears to the eyes. Particularly the thought that my beloved badgers might be responsible for its disappearance. Someone must be watching over little lamb!

  2. What a lovely surprise, that saying about sheep being on a suicide mission the minute they are born certainly is a wise one, lambs love a bit of mischief. 🙂
