We have daily visits from Redwings and yet I have read on several websites that these small thrushes are on the red, endangered, bird list. I loved these small creatures before I read about them but it seems that I must cherish their visits more than the colourful but plentiful goldfinches.

The endangered Redwing

A regular visitor, the delightful Goldfinch

The colourful Goldfinch
I have been reading a bit about Redwings. Winter visitor that likes open countryside. Possibly this is why I have never seen one. Although I did once see a Fieldfare and a whole flock of Waxwings. The latter were in Coulsdon and had settled on a berried hedge surrounding a sports field. Not the most promising of birdwatching sites but the Waxwings obviously found the berries to their liking. I have never seen them since.
