Saturday night and another trip to Cineworld

The wind was blowing, the rain was falling but we had already booked tickets in St Neots to see the film Spotlight so we ventured out into the storm.  With the demise of old fashioned newspapers will stories, such as that by the Boston Globe of widespread child abuse by priests in the Catholic Church, be investigated?  I hope so but I am doubtful.  We both left our phones at home on this outing but remembered to take the e-ticket, which was scanned in at the door. A well made film and a troubling story of an institutionalised cover up and thousands of young lives ruined.

  1. Re: Spotlight. Social media is wonderful for getting 100,000 signatures quickly about something that is already in the public domain. The problem with organised child abuse is that it is covert and all involved have an interest in keeping it so – often the victims themselves. Nothing can be a substitute for investigative journalism but it is the medium of print – putting it out there in black and white- that is most effective. Which is why other media call on newspaper journalists for comment. But you know this already!
