Nursery School for…….Ducklings

After 27 days of sitting the ducklings could be heard making tiny “cheeping” noises on Friday afternoon.  We got up early on Saturday morning and opened the duck house to find two yellow fluffy ducklings emerging from underneath their mother and we saw three more during the course of the day.  They remained indoors until Jeremy let them out this morning whereupon the ducklings tumbled out of the door, managed to find their way into water ( but had to be helped out again) slipped through the wire netting around the duck enclosure and found the cats looking at them in a more than friendly way…….so Jeremy put them all back into the duck house with mum and dad and we set about making a duck nursery!

image image image Videos are available if you email me and I will send a short clip or two!  Four of the eggs remain in the nest…..they didn’t hatch, maybe they didn’t ever develop.  The next few days will be a bit nerve wracking as we try to keep the ducklings from drowning or getting out of the pen.

  1. Glad to know the ducks have arrived. I think the whole country has been anxious about them. It should have been on the news. These are the first babies for you at Colmworth .. Hope there will be lots and lots more. Love Joy.

  2. Yes, I know we’re relieved to hear the good news down here in Chiswick! They are adorable and the first of many happy Spring arrivals, I’m sure!
