It will soon be time to “borrow a bull” for Lucy and Beattie. We took a look at the one that is staying with our neighbour’s herd to sire next years’ calves. He seemed like a fine young fella and those cows seemed to be happy to have him in their field.
The lavender in our herb garden is attracting bees and butterflies in equal measure. We watch them as we sit and take a tea break from planting out 27 rhubarb plants at the far end of the vegetable patch.

We have many more plants to bring out of the polytunnel and plant in the field – courgettes and cabbages amongst them. There will then be space inside for the more exotic plants such as melons and butternut squashes. I can’t really believe that the melons will fruit but I will be delighted to be proved wrong.
