Two days in noisy London, a grandson’s lively birthday party and a drive up the busy M1 and finally we opened the gate and heard birdsong and saw the animals all waiting at the fence to greet us (or perhaps they were hoping to be fed). I confess we made them wait another hour until our city friends arrived to help us feed the lovely creatures. We then had an early supper and some long overdue conversation with old chums.

As they left we closed the gate, the evening sun came out and we went to talk to the cows, count courgettes and tie up tomatoes.

The owl is circling the field, the cows have forgiven our absence and ….it’s peace at last!
