Birds are nesting everywhere….

Even in the old letterbox on the side of the garages where I see the tits flying in and out all day.  And there are pellets and droppings all over the floor of the cart barn by the owl nesting box.  Just now we shared the garden with a woodpecker who was eating the peanuts from the feeder and then hammering his beak against the branches of the huge ash tree on the front lawn.  I tiptoed into the house to grab Jeremy’s long range camera and he took photos of the bird which, I hope, he will upload later to the computer and email to me. What a privilege to share this space with so much wonderful wildlife….I suppose I have to include the slugs even though they are chomping their way through the lettuces in the raised bed and the pigeons who have decimated the outdoor cabbages ( taking no heed of the scarecrow that we made to keep them away)!

  1. Is your Victorian Post Box a protected specimen? there can’t be too many currently functioning in the UK. Of course email and all other electronic devices will soon make the Postman and his services extinct!
There was a busy Woodpecker in action testerday near to my Flat. We have a wonderful selection of bird life here. To my regret and annoyance the Bats have decided that my Balcony is their local Loo! Any ideas how to redirect their attention?

  2. The post box and an original red telephone box ( in need of repair) were left by our predecessor.
But we do have a real postbox outside the house and we send quite a number of letters and cards
I dont know about bats although I sometimes see that twilight in London
