To the sound of Easter Sunday church bells

We gardened all morning and in the background was the sound of the Easter Sunday Church bells ringing across the fields from the 15th Century church tower in Colmworth.

Our resident owl flew across the field in the early morning and there is evidence of its droppings on the floor of the cart barn.  Is it using the nesting box there?  We hope so but do not know the signs.  The photograph below was taken last week and shows the owl in elegant flight in the late afternoon before twilight.Image

Sadly there are no more signs of the duck and her ducklings.  The fencers who have been putting up the post and rail fences for the last two weeks may have scared them away with the noise of their hammering.  Perhaps they will return next spring or even once the men have finished their work at the end of the week.
