Spring colour in pots, poly tunnel plants and wide open windows

We have colour everywhere and around the base of every tree in the garden and even in the field our predecessor has planted daffodils which are just waiting to open. In the poly tunnel the plants are growing so fast and the nasturtiums have doubled in size again. Jeremy broke off one of their leaves and popped it in my mouth assuring me that the peppery taste and texture goes well in salads.

Meanwhile on the bricks and mortar side of life at the Gables, the breeze blocks in the garages have been removed where required and lintels have been inserted.  The windows have been ordered and we are hoping ( against likelihood) that the conversion will be finished within our six week deadline!

  1. Re: nasturtiums. Back in the 1940s we used to pickle the young seeds and use as mock capers. I once had a very strange conversation in Tooting Market when trying to buy a jar of capers and made the mistake of referring to nasturtium seeds. They hadn’t heard of either!

  2. What about your friends in the Ukraine? Are they safe?

    • We are in regular contact with our community in Lviv in Western Ukraine.
For the moment the situation there is more or less united and stable but people are worried about the future, worried about being paid, worried about whether or not they can withdraw money from the banks.
The Ukrainian crisis could well drag us all into this conflict. We have to hope ( against hope and experience) that their leaders and ours are more wise than we know them to be!
Meanwhile our little slice of heaven, The Gables, keeps us sane in a world that is as crazy as ever.
