Parsnips, peas and poly tunnels

We drove to St N today to take a look at the fruit and veg auction and the sale of old industrial equipment. The parsnips, potatoes and carrots came in large sacks too big for our us even with visitors arriving this weekend.  Displayed amongst the produce were six dead rabbits spread out on a wooden board.  We didn’t wait to see if they were sold as a job lot or auctioned one by one!

This afternoon the sun came out so we walked down the field with wheelbarrow, dibber, measuring sticks and string and parsnip seeds. The tiny wafer like seeds, three to a hole, will slowly germinate and provide a crop of root vegetables for the winter.  That is the theory.

Then into the gloriously warm polytunnel where we sowed beetroots, carrots and more peas. The beds are filling up and soon we will have to move plants outside to make room for more exotic, fragile crops. The daffodils are opening fast and the nasturtiums seem to be doubling in size nearly day by day.
