Prams, mice and squirrels

The sunny Sunday provided the perfect condition for wheeling out the old Silver Cross perambulator, washing it down and letting the surprising powerful rays of the sun burn off any residual damp leaving the carriage gleaming and “glamourous” once again.

Whilst I was spring cleaning the pram and various other pieces of baby equipment Jeremy was tidying up the garage and, upon opening one of the tool drawers, he disturbed a nest of mice.  They had to go.  Later, in the barn, he found that mice ( or maybe rats or squirrels) had discovered his nets of seed potatoes and were making a start at eating them.  We decided to put them out of harms way and have now hung them from the rafters in the garage.

This morning, as I waited for the kettle to boil, I looked out of the kitchen window to see if any birds were enjoying the nuts and sunflower seeds and the fat ball.  I realized that the rather oversized bird clamped to the peanut feeder was in fact a long tailed squirrel.

I let the squirrel feed for a while but, when it looked as if we would lose yet another “fat ball”, I opened the back door and shooed it away.  Squirrels get hungry too but maybe this is the same squirrel that feasted on Jeremy’s seed potatoes in the barn? We are all in competition with each other birds, mice, squirrels and humans!

  1. Gill I must tell you how much I enjoy your blog. you have achieved what so many of us would love to do – a balance between town and country without relinquishing any of your ideals. It occurs to me you could even carve a book out of this, with Lvov in it too. Love Rachel

  2. What synchronicity to see the beautiful pram! I was watching Call the Midwife for the first time last night and seeing the prams on there reminded me of the beautiful vintage pram we had when our kids were little. If we have grand kids, I would love to get another one. I too love reading your blog and hearing what you get up to. Good to know we are not the only mad ones with a dual life in London and in our case, Devon. Brana xx
