A sunny morning without any frost. It was so warm that it felt like spring although we know that winter is upon us and snow and ice could arrive at any time. So jeremy dug into the heavy wet earth and I filled the holes with well rotted manure. Then we spread out the roots of the fruit canes and bushes ( the Jostaberries) and raked the freshly dug earth over them just covering the root ball.
i wonder what the Jostaberries will taste like – perhaps the sweetness of ripe raspberries with the texture of loganberries and the plumpness of the tayberry?

I’ve never heard of them – but look forward to the first fruits! How long before you can eat them – halachically speaking that is?
I googled them tonight and I must tell you that Jostaberries are actually a cross between a black currant and a gooseberry – tasting more of gooseberry but looking more like a blackcurrant. I think it will be a couple of years until they fruit or we can eat the fruit. All welcome to join us to try them and savour the taste. Will keep you posted.

I will look forward to trying this new fruit. I haven’t actually seen gooseberries for years. I remember I use to love them as a child. Can you still buy them?
You will, I hope, be able to buy gooseberries from me as we have gooseberries bushes arriving very soon. We will bring our produce to London once a week and sell it at one of the local Suburb shops…..all organic, fresh produce. I might sells jams and chutneys too and free range chicken and duck eggs.
