As I took this photograph a pheasant ran across the grass and disappeared under the fence- too quick for me to capture on camera. Next time, maybe!

That’s really beautiful.
It is these bucolic English winter scenes that I missed so much in Spain.
The English countryside is so glorious and the weather so wonderfully unpredictable. Sunshine in the winter makes my spirits soar and after breakfast we are going outside to dig holes for the new fruit trees that arrived on Friday. Two walnut trees and four plum trees. We planted walnut trees 35 years ago on our Devon smallholding but we left too soon and never saw the fruits of our labours. I hope someone enjoyed the walnuts!
