Basket weaving – why not?

First cut your willows. Feed the leaves to the goats

Then pick up the willow rods (now stripped of their leaves)
And gather them together in a pile
Stack them in a barn and wait until the green willow dries out and turns brown. This can take several months – to be continued next year………

Over 4 years ago some of our Israeli family came to stay at The Gables. Two of the family had babies with them and these babies were snug

Underneath extremely soft blankets made from recycled plastic. I tried to find similar blankets in the UK online. Couldn’t find them. I thought that they would make ethical and lovely baby gifts. Today, in my beloved Primark, I spent £16 and four of my six items were made from recycled plastic

Soft gloves that will be great to wear when I’m outside with the animals
Slippers
And a sign for a jumper that I wanted to buy but didn’t need so I left it on the shelf

Forgive the apostrophe in the title of the last post – I blame Nigel

I was sitting in a rocking chair in the pergola as I was writing and Nigel was running around my feet like a crazy creature. I thought that he wanted attention so l pressed the “publish” button before reading what I had written.

As it happened he didn’t want me at all. He was playing with a little mouse which he caught and has probably eaten by now. Apparently he didn’t get enough breakfast!

It’s all about mothers and chicks

Grey Mother hen and her four chicks are living in a “nursery” run beside the pergola. They are doing brilliantly.

The Black Hen mother and her two able bodied chicks are further away from the house, next to the main chicken run. We think the white chick is a girl and the Maran type is a boy.

Little Blackie is still with us and enjoys attention – I think.
