Glimmers of hope

The rain has stopped, for now, I’ve strewn straw outside the barn, spring flowers are everywhere snd a barn of playful lambs lifts my morning spirits

The pied wagtails have returned to nest in the hay feeder and I watch them fly in and out of the barn

I sit and watch the news from so many cities in Ukraine that I have visited

And I cry

Followed by sweet pancakes with sugar and lemon juice
With a good dose of whisky to steady the nerves for more horrendous news – from another place I have stood and bowed my head, Babi Yar
