Since Grey hen started sitting

I’ve cleared out the old duck run near the house. Pulled out nettles, filled the bath there with fresh water and put straw in the duck house. Baby duck is there with one of the three ducks from the duck pond. I prepared the run last night and moved the ducks this morning

At first baby duck hid inside the duck house but just now I went to check on them and…..

We will take a new approach tomorrow.

Then it was time for a game of Happy Families. It was an honourable draw, three sets each.

The other three will continue to give him a hard time but we will keep an eye on the situation

Goose eggs are enormous and sometimes it takes several hours of sitting before the egg emerges from the bird

The geese huddle around as one of their flock sits to lay. Maybe they are guarding her or maybe just keeping her company.

We have brought one of the three drakes into baby duck’s run in the hope that they will get to know and bond with each other. If that works we can then try putting baby duck back with the others at the duck pond

I went outside to pull some shallots for cooking. Imagine my surprise when I found baby duck sitting at the door of the run where (until this morning) he had lived with Mother Hen. Had he flown there or found a gap in the fence around the duck pond? I picked him up, gave him a cuddle and have put him back in his old run although his mother is back with the other hens. He is alone. Tonight we will put him in with the other ducks when we lock them into their house. I just hope that they are kind to baby duck.
