I’m taking as many plants out of pots and putting them in the soil. If we get rain they will be happy and so will I

I save the washing up water and put it on these newly transplanted anemones

We moved two families of chicks to the quail barn today.

The youngest five have their Silkie mum with them to defend them from the five older chicks. They all have much more space and shade in the barn. Our visitors have just been to see them

And had a cuddle. This is a three or four week old chick
This is an 8 week old chick.

Our guests brought us a welcome gift

And they will go home with honey, jam and eggs

I worked outside very early this morning. It’s 11 am and I’ve retreated indoors – the heat is too much and the sun is dangerous

A good morning to wash snd dry feed bowls snd buckets and to change the duck water
Soon we might not be able to do this.

It was so hot today we didn’t even take our customary walk around the perimeter of the field

The ducks, geese and chickens hid from the midday sun inside their houses

We sat, for some hours this afternoon, under the shade of the large ash tree – reading and dozing. The heatwave continues tomorrow and the drought could go on for months. I wash up in a bowl and pour all the water into buckets which I then use to water the tomato plants.
