A whole lotta baking going on in this house

Borekas filled with potato and cheese made with my homemade puff pastry (don’t count the calories)
Jeremy has made his own sour dough starter and today the first loaf, made with the starter, came out of the oven. Another one will be baked later
Unfortunately it was so delicious we have already eaten half of the first loaf! If this carries on we will need to go on a three day fast!

What is going on out there on 25th November?

We were down by the pond clearing brambles when I noticed a lot of activity in the bee hives. They only come out when it’s warm and it is warm today. Jeremy says they are in cleaning flights (which is more or less what we doing at the pond). On the walk back along the garden we found more globe artichokes (we picked and cooked some last week) and then, to my amazement we found fresh, red rhubarb growing.

I’m just about to wash and stew it
Jeremy is still picking chilli peppers from the poly tunnel and green house and pickling them. They are too hot for me but they look very pretty

Help! Help!Help! There’s a Poddy on the loose in the vegetable garden!

I was taking a bale of straw from the sheep barn to the chicken barn and the sheep were watching me. Most have enough respect to give me a wide berth but dear little Poddy (tame and fearless) followed me out of the gate and ran into the vegetable garden

She loved the chard – delicious
Nibbled on the gooseberry bushes (thorns and all)

She gave me a complete run around the garden and I resorted to bribery with a bowl of sheep nuts, slowly leading her back through the gate. She’s a match for Naughty Nigel! Sometimes I wonder who is in charge at The Gables

Bottoms up!

A friend called in, unexpectedly, this afternoon just as I returned home from the library in St Neots.

We decided to give her a sample of our latest product

Gables cider. Good health, bottoms up, L’chaim !
