And on my late afternoon walk …..

A barn owl along Mill Road

In winter time or after a great deal of rain barn owls are hungry snd may need to hunt by day. They fly low to the ground. What a stirring sight as I took my late afternoon walk. I do hope the owl found some food.

Yesterday, when I couldn’t take photographs, I was transfixed by a green woodpecker in the paddock

Maybe it will visit again. Today it’s goldfinches – who we used to see often but rarely see these days

The bees, below, have been moved to a new site away from the vegetable garden.
J says the bees come out for “cleaning flights” during the winter. The metal strip over the opening is a mouse guard to prevent rodents entering the warm hive during the cold months
The garden in winter

I once watched a TV programme about a young sheep farming couple

The wife was obsessed with sheep and the husband also raised cattle. The woman confessed that as a teenager she didnt have pop star posters on the wall but instead had blown up photos of her favourite sheep. I sympathise. My teenage wall was adorned with a poster of Che Guevara just above the bed where I lay my head each night. These days I, too, think of lambs and sheep whilst still admiring my teenage revolutionary heroes

She and I still have nose to nose kisses. Will she be a first time mother this year?
Who could ever forget Wiggle who followed us around like a puppy back in spring 2016
Or Iggle and Piggle rejected by their mother and hand reared by us
Or darling Dotty who failed to thrive but was loved every day of her short life
What new dramas will arise in the next couple of months?
